The first thing to do in the area is visit, one after another, the coves that line the coast: three magnificent coves named Cala Violina, Cala Martina and Cala Francese are found in this order along the stretch between Punta Ala and Scarlino, which can be reached not only by car but also on foot following a breathtaking route along the cliffs above the sea, from Punta Ala to Puntone.
With such a short distance between Rocchette and Punta Ala, it is well worth a visit to the sailing "temple" town: the regattas are certainly the main attraction, but it is also possible to practice wind-surf and scuba diving.
The inland also offers a few surprises: not only the towns of Scarlino and Gavorrano, but also the uncontaminated nature of “Bandite di Scarlino”, now a State Reserve, and the possibility of touring the vineyards to taste the wines produced by the myriad of small local vineyards. The area does not only have wine to offer, but also many other high quality traditional products such as olive oil, chestnuts, mushrooms, black truffle and exquisite wild boar cold cuts.
